The History And Mystery Of Hidimba And Bhima’s Marriage

Who Was Hidimba

According to folklore, Hidimba was a demon whose brother Hidimb ruled the whole area around Manali. Hidimbaa married Bhima, the most powerful of the five Pandavas during the Mahabharata period. She vowed that his brother would beat Hidiimba into battle. She will marry him.

Hidimba Brother (Hidimb)

The five Pandavas were sleeping in the forest. But keeping in mind the safety of all, Pandu’s son Bhima woke up and started guarding him. The forest in which Queen Kunti and all the Pandavas entered and were resting was elusive [magical forest]. Demons ruled the forest, and Hidimb, the monster’s king, laid a trap of his illusion in this whole forest. All these demons were male devotees. That is, they used to eat humans as food. The king of demons Hidimb had smelled of man, and now he wanted all the Pandavas to be his and his monster species.

For this, the king of demons Hidimb called his sister demonic Hidimba and tasked him to bring all those humans to his place of residence. Obtaining his brother Raksharaj Raj Hidimba’s orders, the demonic Hidiimba set out to find and get all the Pandavas to complete this task. When the demonic Hidimbaa approached near the Pandavas, he saw that all the other Pandavas were resting, but one of them was awake and guarded. They were Pandu’s son Bhima. The demonic Hidimba became enchanted on seeing Bhima and started loving him.

As soon as the demonic Hidiimba saw Bhima, she began to love him and took a beautiful form, approached him, and asked him to marry her. With this, she came in her proper form, introduced herself, and gave him her brother demon. He also told about Hidimb’s plan to eat all the Pandavas. Bhima got angry at this and, along with Mata Kunti and all the other brothers, reached the demons’ abode.

Hidimb Death

Upon reaching the abode of all the Pandavas’ demons with Mata Kunti, Hidimb was thrilled that her sister Hidimba had brought food to all humans. Still, as soon as she came to know that Hidimbaa began to love Bhima, marrying her Wishing and at the same time praying to all the Pandavas and Mata Kunti not to cook their food, Hidimb became angry and challenged Bhima to battle. Then there is a terrible war between Bhima and Hidimb. In which Bhima was powerful, but the demon king Hidimb was also mighty. In this war, Raksharaj Raja Hidimb is killed by Bhima, and thus Bhima is declared victorious.

At this time, Bhima was so angry that he wanted to kill the demonic Hidiimba too. The idea behind doing this was that Hidiimba should not harm all those Pandavas and Mother Kunti to avenge the slaughter of his brother Hidimb. But on the persuasion of Jyeshtha Pandu’s son Yudhishthira, Bhima’s anger subsided, and he left the demonic Hidimbaa.

Hidimba Husband (Bhima)

According to a tradition of demons, the person who kills the king of monsters is married to that demon king’s sister or daughter, and the same person is also appointed king of demons. When such a thing was told to Mata Kunti and the Pandavas and proposed marriage to Bhima and Hidimba, Mata Kunti and Bhima rejected it. The reason behind the rejection of this marriage was that both Hiidimba and Bhima belonged to different species. One was human. The other was demonic. With this,

The second reason was that all the Pandavas, along with Mata Kunti, gave the reason for their exile and thus expressed their inability to get married and stay at that place. Hidiimba assured Mata Kunti and vowed that no Pandavas would have any difficulty due to the differences between the two species, and as soon as Hiidimba gets a child, all of you leave this place go. Hearing this promise of Hiidimba and seeing her true love, Mother Kunti accepted Bhima and Hidimba’s marriage proposal, and thus both of them were married with demonic customs.

Hidimba And Draupadi

When Ghatotkacha came to the kingdom of his father Bhima for the first time, as per his mother’s orders (Hidimba), he did not give any respect to Draupadi.

Draupadi felt insulted and got very angry. She shouted at him that she is a typical woman. She is the queen of Yudhishthira, she is the lady of a Brahmin ruler, and her respect is more than that of the Pandavas. And, at the command of his insidious satanic mother, he has offended her a meeting full of elders, sages, and lords. O evil, your life will be concise, and you will be killed without any fight.

Hidimba Son (Ghatotkacha)

Hidiimba and Bhima started living happily. After a year, Hidimba’s son was born. The son was named Ghatotkacha because he did not have hair on his head. He turned very elusive and grew up as soon as he was born.

Hiidimba took his son to the Pandavas and said, ‘This is your brother’s child so that it will be in service to you.’ Having said this, Hidiimba left from there. Ghatotkacha bowed with reverence at the feet of the Pandavas and Mother Kunti and said, ‘Now tell me my excellent service? Hearing her, Kunti said, ‘You are the eldest grandson of my clan. Your service will be taken when the time comes. ‘

On this, Ghatotkacha said, ‘Whenever you will remember me, I will be present in the service of you people.’ Having said this, Ghatotkacha went away from there. The same Ghatotkacha found valor at the hands of Karna while fighting on behalf of the Pandavas in the war of Mahabharata. Ghatotkacha’s son was Barbaric. Due to the curse of Draupadi, Ghatotkacha was killed by Karna in the battle of Mahabharata.
