Full Meaning Of Jesus

If ever a name has been given importance, it is the name of Jesus. Scripture says that Jesus was given “the name that is above all names, that all who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth should kneel in the name of Jesus” (Philippians 2:9–10). Why is the name of our Lord so powerful? What does the name Jesus mean?

The name of Jesus was announced by angels to Joseph and Mary (Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:31), meaning “Yahweh saves” or “Yahweh is salvation.” Translated from Hebrew and Aramaic, this name is Yeshua.

The word is a combination of Yah, which is an abbreviation for Yahweh, the name of the God of Israel (Exodus 3:14), and the verb Yasha, meaning “rescue,” “salvation,” or “save.”

The English spelling of Yeshua in the Hebrew language is Joshua, and the Hindi Bible is Joshua. But when translated from Hebrew into popular Greek, in the original language of the New Testament, the word Yeshua became Eicos.

In English. Thus, Yeshua and Joshua or Joshua and Jesus mean “Jehovah saves” or “Lord is salvation.”

The name Jesus was very popular in first-century Judea. For this reason, our Lord was often referred to as “Jesus of Nazareth,” distinguishing him from his childhood home in the city of Nazareth in Galilee (Matthew 21:11, Mark 1:24, Luke 18:37, John 1:45, John 19:19, Acts 2:22).

Even though this name is common, the name of Jesus is remarkably important. God sent Jesus for a specific purpose, and his personal name was a testimony to his mission.

Just as Joshua/Joshua led his people to victory over the Canaanites in the Old Testament, so in the New Testament, Yeshua/Jesus led his people to victory over sin and their spiritual enemies.

Galatians 4:4-5 says, “But when the time was up, God sent his son, who was born of a woman, and was born under the law, to buy and redeem those under the law, and make us adopters.” get the position.”

Jesus was sent to save us (John 3:17). The meaning of Jesus’ name—”Jehovah Saves”—reflects his mission (to save and redeem) and his identity as the Savior of the world.

At the same time, the generalization of Jesus’ name underlines his humanity and humility. The Son of God emptied himself of his glory to be a humble person (Philippians 2:6–8).

The name Jesus is important because of its meaning and because of what it represents. There is power and authority in the person of Christ Jesus, and of course, the person is designated by his name.

Far more than other names, we associate the name of Jesus with his special character, quality, and function, as seen in the following biblical truths:

Salvation is only in the name of Jesus: “Jesus is the stone ‘that you masons despised and became the cornerstone.’

There is no salvation in anyone else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we can be saved” (Acts 4:11–12; with John 14:6; 20:31; See also Acts 2:21; Joel 2:32; 1 Corinthians 6:11; 1 John 2:12).

Forgiveness of sins is obtained through the name of Jesus: “All his prophets testify that whoever believes in him will receive the forgiveness of sins through his name” (Acts 10:43; as well as See also Acts 22:16).

Believers are baptized in the name of Jesus: “Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be each one of you baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38; see also Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:12, 15-16; 10:48; 19:5).

Healings and miracles were done in Jesus’ name: “And by the faith that is in his name has given the power to this man, whom you see and know.

The same faith which is through him, He has been healed well before all of you” (Acts 3:16; also read verses 6-8 and Acts 4:30).

Jesus teaches believers to pray in his name; That is, to pray in his authority, the type of prayer he gives is this: “Whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified through the Son. If you ask anything in the name, I will do it” (John 14:13–14; see also John 15:16; 16:23–24).

In every way, Jesus fulfills the meaning of his name. The name of Jesus reminds us of the power, presence, and purpose of the risen Christ. It makes us believe that God’sGod’s grace is there to save us.

Our Lord Jesus brought GodGod into humanity and now brings humans to GodGod through the Salvation He bought. In the Bible, when people spoke or acted in Jesus’ name, they did so to exercise his authority as the Lord’s representative.

The life of a believer is to live in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:17) and glorify GodGod by doing so: “That the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and you are in him” (2 Thessalonians 1:12).
