Is Masturbation A Sin In The Bible? Yes, because Ephesians 5:3 says, “Among you there must not be any indication of sexual immorality or of all kinds of impureness.” The passage does not address sexual activity or masturbation in any way. The verse states the hint of sexual immorality in intimate terms or any type, and I think that masturbation is in the category of intimate immorality.

Masturbation is a sin, not because the Bible directly condemns it. But even more so because you have to sin in other ways to masturbate. For example, they say you can’t masturbate without lust. You know, most guys who don’t masturbate without dirty videos. It is a selfish act, and selfishness is a sin in the Bible. That’s why masturbation is wrong.

I’ve talked to some people who can use really weird thinking techniques to justify the sin of masturbation. Because they think it’s not directly condemned in the Bible. 

For example, some people have told me that they can masturbate with a blank mind. So they don’t have to think about a woman. Some people don’t use vulgarity videos or dirty lust movies. Some married people say, if I think about my spouse, it’s not lust Because I’m married to that person. And some people think that because if they masturbate, they will sin in a less direct way. It’ll hinder them from maybe looking at porn or going out and having an affair or having a one-night stand.

So they use this strange justification to sin in this way. But when we see that the Bible outright condemns masturbation, we can fix all of that unhealthy thinking.

For example, the Bible doesn’t list every cuss word or every foul kind of joke or speech. I mean, you could go on and on because people invent this type of language all the time.

So that’s what the Bible also does with sexual sin. God doesn’t give us a list of every sexual sin that is out there for one because people are constantly creating new expressions of sin. So it would be completely impossible to list every single sin out there.

The Bible Gives Two Broad Categories With Regard To Sexuality.

In 1st Corinthians 7 it is mentioned that:

1. All sexual activity with your spouse is good.
2. All sexual activity outside of the covenant of marriage is bad.

What Does The Bible Say About Masturbation For Married People?

1st Corinthians 7 says in verse 5 to the married do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time. To pray, then gather again to ensure that Satan doesn’t tempt you by your lack of self-control. If you pay close attention to what Paul just said there, he said to come together again you married people so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Two things are mentioned in verse 5. If you’re away from your spouse and you commit some sort of sexual activity, you just fall into the category of falling to Satan temptation because of your lack of self-control. Then he says, comes together, the things you do sexually with your spouse are condoned.

Now I think there are probably two qualifiers in marriage if there is something harmful to the body or if both the husband and wife do not agree on something, So you shouldn’t do those things because there are more parts in the Bible that you know from the Lord with your body that you know how to honor your spouse. 

What I’m trying to say is that when your spouse agrees, and it’s not harmful to the body, everything in marriage is permissible and encouraged. Every sexual activity outside of marriage is condemned or sin.

What Does The Bible Say About Masturbation For Single People?

1st Corinthians 7 says in verses 8 & 9, The Single people and to the widow, I say it is good for them to stay unmarried as I am. If they can’t control their passions, they should get married.

Again, Paul’s giving us these two categories for single people regarding their sexuality. He’s saying the two options for you on how to deal with your sexual desires are complete abstinence from participating in any sexual activity and getting married.

Those are the only two categories for single people. They are just like married people doing anything (Masturbation or one night stand) away from their spouse is a sin. Single people since you don’t have a spouse any sexual activity is outside of God’s desire for you and if you do have a strong desire it probably means you’re called to marriage.
