What Does The Number 3 Mean In The Bible?
What does the number 3 means in the Bible? When talking about numbers in the Bible, I’d like to make clear when it comes to the number within the Bible that we need to be very careful. When we’re studying biblical numerology, it’s an investigation into numbers. It is important to be aware since the Bible doesn’t provide the significance of numbers.
A great biblical principle to be aware of when trying to answer difficult questions about the Bible is that Scripture always interprets Scripture. Suppose you’re not sure what a certain passage of the Bible means. Therefore we need to make inferences on what these numbers mean and why God is using certain numbers repeatedly.
In that case, it’s always smart to go to a more clear part of Scripture that has a more obvious meaning and then interpret the text that you’re not a lot. A little uncertain about the lenses of the text you’re certain is certain. So when we’re talking about the number three in the Bible, we need to be careful because there’s not a plain versus as the number 3 means of this.
So with that said, while it is a little bit dangerous to you know to say what something means when the Bible doesn’t, you know, say that directly. We’re also doing ourselves a disservice if we aren’t asking the hard questions regarding the Bible and trying our best to understand this topic.
So to get started, let’s take a few examples in Scripture of where the number 3 is used and just to show the repetition of this number to show significance specifically in the life of Jesus.
Satan. For instance, Jesus was 30 years old when he began His public life ministry. Jesus Jesus was 33 years old when he was crucified at the foot of the cross. Jesus was three times tempted throughout the desert.

Peter James and John were the 3 disciples with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane when he invited him to be a part of his inner circle. The disciples were unable to remain awake three times during the Garden of Gethsemane. Peter denied Jesus 3 times. In John 21, Jesus reinstated Peter and asked him 3 times if Peter loved him.
It is written in Mark 1525. It is at the third hour of the day in which Jesus was crucified. The Holy Spirit anointing ceremony at Pentecost, according to Acts 2:15, occurred at the third hour of the morning. Of course, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day.
Also, of the course that God can be described as one, but he also has three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, which we refer to as the Trinity. So while we must be careful when interpreting what the number three means, I think we can make one obvious statement when looking at the whole way this number is used.
So the first thing that I believe the number 3 means in the Bible is that God is sovereign. While we can debate what it means in each of these situations, I think maybe one of the most obvious statements we can make is that the regular occurrence of the number three cannot be by chance. It would be mathematically impossible for in all these instances for the number three just to appear randomly.
It is evident it is clear that God, in His sovereign power, chose the number 3 to repeat in each of these situations. So again, the first thing that I believe the number 3 means at minimum is that God is sovereign. The second reason to consider the significance of the number three is that the third meaning we find within Scripture could be that God is trustworthy.
So if God is like a sovereign, we said in seven-point one, it’s also safe to assume that God can be trusted. I think this is seen clearly in the life of Peter.
Also, notice that Peter rejected Jesus three times. He did not sleep within the Garden of Gethsemane three times, leaving him with no opportunity to pray and prepare for the temptation coming. And of course, in John 21, Jesus reinstates Peter and asks him three times if Peter loves him as part of his reinstatement process.
Thus, in the life of Peter, He could reflect on his past mistakes and say that, while I’m accountable for my actions, I’m aware that, even in my sin, God was ultimately in control. Peter could have denied Jesus four times, he could have denied the opportunity to pray two times, and he could have Jesus could have asked him 20 times. If He was a lover and he loved him, however, it was the number three that kept recurring in each of these cases.
God is faithful to redeem the situation, and he is sovereign even in our sin. He never causes us to sin, but he has sovereignty over sin and can redeem us from anything that we do or that other people do to us. At a minimum, we can say God is in control, so even when we make mistakes, even when we sin, even when we turn from God.
Prophetic Value Of The Number 3
The prophetic value of the number 3. Here we go, he discovered in his estimation four numbers represent perfect works of God. The number three is the first of those four perfect numbers, the first one being three, the second one being seven, the next one is the number ten, and then, of course, then number twelve.
Now the number 3 tends to represent fullness. No, I love the full understanding of fullness. It means all the way now I like to say the whole enchilada. Because I want to glorify God through tex-mex actually, but the number 3 represents fullness. And here’s what’s amazing: the word fullness is actually in the Bible three different times.
So the fullness of God he feeds 3:19 the fullness of Christ Ephesians 4:13 and the fullness of the Godhead bodily shameful plug numbers that preach. Whenever I look at fullness, it means okay to know what this is to its fullest extent. Boom, the number 3 is on.
The number 3 also represents perfect completion which means it’s perfected and it’s all the way. So if you want to know what flesh is all about, it’s not just six. It’s six three times 666. If you want to know what the Spirit of God is all about, it’s not just seven. It’s seven seven seven, so it’s seven three times.
I’m sure you know that the word Christ has the gamete Rhea of 555 and that Christ is found in the Bible. The name Christ is listed exactly 555 times. It’s not just five, but it’s five three different times. Also, what’s the other one? There’s another cool one in there.
Jesus is not just eight new beginnings, but Jesus is eight eight eight. So eight represents new beginnings, but then the gamut riah of the name Yeshua is eight eight eight or eight three different times. It might also interest you to know – it’s one of my favorite things about 888 is that 1776 which is when our nation was born.
Is eight eight eight times to our nation was born to be a faithful witness of eight eight eight Jesus Christ in the year 1776 did you catch it because it was God speaking.
So getting back to the number three, if we’re gonna look at what the number three represents and how it represents fullness, I want to tell you I got some great examples of this through my book. I have a whole huge chapter, so one of the biggest chapters that I have, and I’m just going to take this directly out of the book to illustrate it represents perfect completion.
Jesus raised three people from the dead three people in the Old Testament were resurrected hallelujah; God spoke from heaven 3 different times after Paul met Jesus. He was blind for 3 days. The Jordan River was parted 3 different times.
Noah’s Ark had three different levels to it. God told Joshua three times to be courageous Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days. Right, so you caught it, it represents this thing is going to come to be complete and when it’s completed and when you can see it for all that it is or when it’s finally made perfect. Now guys, so there you have it. The number 3 is all about perfect completion is all about fullness.
