When Was Jesus Born

Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, was born on December 25. The word Christmas is derived from the word Christes Maise or ‘Christ’s Mass.’

It is estimated that the first Christmas was celebrated in Rome in 336 AD. To commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ the Lord, it is observed worldwide on December 25.

Answer From Scripture

When Was Jesus Born
When Was Jesus Born

There is no specific date given in the Bible for the birth of Jesus Christ, as can be seen from the books below:

“The exact date of Christ’s birth is unknown.” –The New Catholic Encyclopedia.

“The day on which Christ was born is not known.”–Encyclopedia of Early Christianity.

The Bible doesn’t directly address the question of “when was Jesus born.” It does provide details about two events that took place at the time Jesus was born. It can be seen that he wasn’t born on December 25.

Not In The Winter Season

Enrollment. Shortly before Jesus’ birth, Emperor Augustus issued a decree that “all the people of his kingdom should enrol themselves.”

All people had to enrol in “their city,” which meant that they might have to travel a week or more. (Luke 2:1-3) This decree was probably issued to collect taxes and enlist people in the army.

According to this decree, people did not like to work, no matter what time of year it was. If he had been sent to enrol, especially in the cold season, he would have gotten even angrier at the emperor, as many had to travel long distances in the cold. For this reason, it is unlikely that Augustus forced people to enrol in the cold winter.

Sheep. The shepherds were “staying in the fields and guarding their flocks at night.” (Luke 2:8) The book Daily Life in the Time of Jesus says that “a week before the Passover,” that is, from about mid-March to mid-November, flocks of sheep lived in the open field.

According to the book, they also lived in the winter. This shows that Christmas as we know it is not the correct date. It is written in the Gospels (Matthew Mark, Luke, Luke, John) that shepherds were in the fields with their flocks.

In Early Fall

Jesus died in the spring of 33 CECE, on Nisan 14, the Passover. If we count backwards from this date, we can estimate when he may have been born.

(John 19:14-26) Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his three-and-a-half-year preaching work. So he must have been born at the beginning of the autumn season on 2 BCE.–Luke 3:23.

Which Year Was Jesus Born?

The Bible does not give clear proof of the year of Jesus’ birth, but according to some events, we try to find out in which year Jesus was born.

The Gospel of the Bible contains details about Jesus’ birth. Matthew 2:1 states that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod, the King. We have a framework to work from, as Herod died in 4 BC.

Herod also killed young male children in his territory, including Joseph and Mary, who fled to Bethlehem to be with Jesus. This suggests that Jesus could have been two years of age before Herod’s death. It shows the birth date between 6 and 4 BC.

Luke 2:1-2 focuses attention on several other facts: “In those days, Augustus Caesar gave a command to write down names of all peoples in the entire world.”

This was when Quirinius, the ruler of Syria, made the first inscription. We know that Augustus Caesar ruled between 27 BC and 14 AD.

Quirinius was the ruler of Syria in that same period. This is documented in census documents, including Judea, starting at 6 BC.

Scholars argue that this is Luke’s census, but it seems to be a single event. These historical accounts suggest that the time of Christ’s birth at Bethlehem is most likely between 6 and 5 BC.

Luke adds another detail to our timeline. “Jesus was thirty years old at the time he began preaching” (Luke 3:1-23). John the Baptist was in the wilderness at the time Jesus’ ministry began.

John’s ministry was “in the fifteenth years of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate, Herod in Judea, Ituraiah and his brother, Trachonitis Philip, were rulers of Judea, and Hannah and Cephas were high priests. The word of God reached John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.” (Luke 3:23-2).

AD. 27-29 is the only time period that includes all of these facts in one time. Jesus would have been around AD 6 to 4. Jesus was 32 years old when he began his ministry.

What about the date of Christ’s birthday? Long after the New Testament period, December 25 has been a tradition. Although this is the day Christians agreed upon to celebrate Jesus’ birth, the exact date is unknown.

It is well-known that historical and biblical accounts both point to the exact year of Jesus’ birth.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Judea) to Mary around 6-5 BC. His birth changed the history of the entire world and the lives of many people.

Do You Know When Jesus Was Born? (Explain With Picture)

What month was Jesus born now? I know we typically celebrate it on December 25. However, that is not the time he was actually born.

Let’s take a look at what the scriptures say of when he was born to further point out the significance of this because Christ points us to the Feast of Tabernacles.

Look at this picture, and you’ll see the festival months listed out with the priestly divisions.1

Do You Know When Jesus Was Born
Do You Know When Jesus Was Born?

I’ll explain that in a second in Luke 1 verse 5, it says in the days of Herod the king of Judah, there was a priest named Zacharias of the division of Abijah, and he had a wife from the daughter of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. Verse 8.

It happened while he was performing his priestly services before God in the prescribed order of his division, according to the customary priestly office.

Lotto selected him to enter the temple and burn incense. Zechariah is here, and he’s one among the priests that he’s of both the division Abijah as well as the division Abijah in this first chronicle.

24 verse 7 says it’s the eighth division, so you can see in the image there the eighth division would fall in the month of June.

You say, why is that significant how this pointing to christ’s birth is? Well, let’s keep reading in Luke.

In Luke 1:23, it says when the days of his priestly service were ended. Verse 24, he returned home. Elizabeth, his wife, became pregnant and kept herself alone for five months.

I’m gonna just count five months from the time after he does his priestly service, And we see we come to November, that’s the fifth month.

Verse 26 says that the angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary in the sixth month. He says, “Don’t be afraid. You will find favour with God, and you’ll conceive and bear a child in your womb. His name is Jesus.

So she conceives in the sixth month, and now let me ask you this question if Mary conceives in the sixth month and if you’re looking on the chart, when should she have Jesus?

She should have Jesus around nine-ish months later. So if you count nine months from December, you see that September or October should be Jesus’s birth.

Let me ask you this what festival was happening in September in October? That’s right. It was the trumpets; it was Atonement, it was Tabernacles, you see Jesus Emmanue, God with us, I believe.

In the Scriptures, he was born around that time, September, October, during the Feast of Tabernacles. So he comes to us at the Feast of Tabernacles he wants to dwell with us.

God in the lamb is the tabernacle. He’s a tabernacle, and Lissa’s this is his second coming. We just rounded out with the last part of the graphic on the screen there.

So there’s the beautiful picture of the plan of salvation as demonstrated by he looking at the feast that God instituted with literal historic ancient Jerusalem ancient Israel in Jerusalem.

Do You Know When Jesus Was Born?

And you see how they point to a greater spiritual worldwide application. All of their fulfilment is in Christ from the first four feasts. Then we go through the summer drought, the three and a half years, three and a half prophetic years in terms of spiritual application.

Then we come to the judgment the atonement crisis cleanses the sanctuary, and he’s about to return to very exciting times.
